Meow Wolf has put the Westside on the map, especially with younger people in Santa Fe. Rufina Street is becoming Beer Street Santa Fe but nearby, Tumbleroot Brewery and Distillery has just opened a 7000 square foot pub with soundstage, huge parking area and excellent beer.

Tumbleroot may be one of the most interesting things to happen in Santa Fe in a long time. Its founders Jason Fitzpatrick, Jason Kirkman, and Brandon O’Brien want to do more than provide beer and spirits to Santa Fe. They conceived Tumbleroot as a place for music, but also a marketplace for local food and other acts of creativity as well as an outdoor beer and food space.

The two Jasons and Brandon O’Brien set up their brewing and distilling facility at 32 Bisbee Court off Interstate 25 near the Bureau of Land Management building and Santa Fe Brewing. While the bubbles were forming on Bisbee Court they found the old Alegre Club at 2791 Aqua Fria Street and remodeled the space to be a sunny, open, inviting place for large gatherings of happy people. The room holds 400.

Eventually they plan to include a kitchen in the taproom but for now Bang Bite has one of their orange food trailers parked in back to serve their burgers, grilled cheese and sandwiches most days. Other food trucks will join in this summer. Tumbleroot also has a short menu of cheeses, olives and other things that go well with beer and whiskey.

Tumbleroot focuses on making things from scratch using local, organic ingredients. This includes as much of the beverage ingredients as possible.

Tumbleroot also has a large outdoor patio space with views to the west, away from the street where people can enjoy relative quiet and views of the Santa Fe “River” and the Jemez Mountains. This space is possible with their away-from-downtown location. The parking lot is vast. You can almost see the curvature of the earth as you look down it.

Tumbleroot has an expansive view of beer. Jason Kirkman came to the operation from a number of other breweries out of state, but also from Bathtub Row Beer Cooperative in Los Alamos. Tumbleroot will not be limited to the normal British beer styles though they do offer IPA, Irish Stout and Citra Pale Ale. They also are pouring Farmhouse Saison, and Dortmunder , a light German style pilsner-like beer perfected in 19th century Germany. And, to top it off, they offer a strong Belgian dark that has been finished in bourbon barrels (10.8% ABV).

Tumbleroot also pours their own gin, vodka, rum, agave and whiskey which they also bottle. They have wine from Vivac Winery in Dixon, NM.

Happy hour from 3 to 5 with a dollar off pints.

Tumbleroot is destined to be one of Santa Fe’s top nightlife scenes. This place is very well thought out, attractive and fun!
