Ski Santa Fe finally got some natural snow just in time to coat the mountain for Brewski, their annual beer festival on the slopes on February 24. Seven brewers will bring their suds for a tasting and drinking festival with live music and, of course, skiing. Beer and skiing. A perfect combination.

Ski Santa Fe finally got some snow as the storm track off Baja California opened up and sent a river of moisture over northern New Mexico on February 12. Those people up at the ski area who poke sticks into the snow report that 18 inches of snow have fallen in the last two weeks, enough to make the open slopes navigable for skiers and snowboarders at Brewski. Under that 18 inches of new snow, a bare 22 inch base hides. But with the jet stream flowing over the center of the country again, we will probably get more snow soon.

Brewski will include some very good New Mexico brewers: Boxing Bear, Broken Trail, Canteen, La Cumbre, Santa Fe Brewing, Second Street, and The 377. The later has been winning awards for beers made by a woman brewmaster.

Brewski costs $18. You get a keepable pint glass, a beer and 3 tasters for that money. You can buy more beer if you like. Nobody will stop you.

Soul Foundation will play in the cold air, a feat for any musicians. Event lasts from 11AM to 3PM. Tickets at the box office or by calling 505 954 3680.

While we’re at it , Purgatory Ski Resort at Durango is having a blowout party with Steamworks Brewing at the Powder House on February 17, 11-3. They will have music and fun on the deck. Purgatory has slightly more snow than Santa Fe.
